Maxfield Parrish
(1870 - 1966)

Studied under Howard Pyle, inspired by Edwin Austin Abbey and N.C. Wyeth. Early career as cover artist and masthead illustrator for Collier's, Life, and Century. Ad work for Edison Mazda, Jell-o, Fisk Tires, Colgate. Prolific book illustrator and muralist. Collected by Astors, Du Ponts, Forbes, Hearsts, Vanderbilts, Whitneys. His "Daybreak," sold for $10k in 1925, auctioned at $4.25 mln in 1996 a record for a "commercial" artist.
